Solar Water Heater

A solar water heater can save a substantial amount of money for the average homeowner. Depending on your location and climate, these water heaters can sometimes eliminate any home water heating costs. They can be purchased through a number of manufacturers, but they can also be homemade.

If you’re good with your hands, building a solar water heater is not that difficult. A basic unit works by moving the water through tubes inside a solar collector. As the water moves through the collector, concentrated sunlight is used to heat the water which is then transferred to a reservoir. There are a variety of websites that offer plan sets for building these water heaters yourself.

If, on the other hand, you don’t feel confident in your DIY abilities, a solar water heater can be purchased through numerous sources. The growing popularity of these water heaters has inspired many “green” companies to create easy-to-install, pre-fabricated solar heaters that can be purchased relatively inexpensively. They can be found quite easily through a quick browsing of the internet.
